McDougle Elementary School PTA

Dear Parents and Families:

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. Hosted by the MES PTA staff, this event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

After missing out on many beloved traditions, our fall Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from 12/4 until 12/10, 2021. We will not be able to have families indoors, but will hold two outdoor events that families may choose to attend. Please join us for Family Day on Saturday 12/4 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and for Family Night on Thursday, 12/9 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. We will also have the fair open a few days during the week for students and staff to purchase books.

  • Our Book Fair offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It’s a convenient digital account that your child can use for shopping at our Fair. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute, too!

  • We are encouraging teachers to set up eWallets as well and share that with families so that you can contribute to your child’s teachers’ purchases of new books for the classroom.

  • If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop online at our school’s Virtual Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.

Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

We’re excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing your child there!

Estimados padres y familias:

Families Helping Families is kicking off our holiday support efforts and we need your help!

First, we are gathering coats and are in need of some specific sizes including toddler size 2T and 3T as well as several unisex big kid XL and/or adult mediums. We would also love clean, gently used unisex color winter hats and gloves of all sizes. Please bring new or gently used, clean coats (with working zippers and buttons), new hats, new gloves to McDougle Elementary School or drop off at Catherine Gravatt’s home at 304 Autumn Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. While we specifically need some smaller toddler and XL larger sizes, we are also graciously accepting a variety of sizes for both boys and girls.

Second, the majority of our gift giving will be given in the form of gift cards so families can purchase their own gifts as they see fit. If you are feeling especially festive, you are welcome to stuff a stocking with items such as markers, colored pencils, pop-its, squishies, etc. to donate by itself or along with a gift card. Gift cards from Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Food Lion or other grocery stores can be dropped along with coats at the school or Catherine Gravatt’s home (address above), mailed directly to the school (McDougle Elementary 890 Old Fayetteville Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27516) attention of Laura Olley OR you can donate money directly to Andrea Clusiau via Venmo @AndreaClusiau or Catherine Gravatt @Catherine-Gravatt. If you donate via Venmo, please put in notes FOR MES HOLIDAY GIVING.

Please know we recognize the strain all families have endured over the last year and a half and there is never any pressure to donate if you are unable. Whatever you can contribute is greatly appreciated.

Donations should be completed by Friday December 10th end of day. If you need to make a separate arrangement or have questions please contact Laura Olley at or 919-969-2435 X64380 or Andrea Clusiau, or Catherine Gravatt

Thank you for all you do and for all your support. Let’s make this a wonderful holiday for our MES!
